Summer= Goldmine AKA Free Outdoor Events

River to River Festival

"Founded in 2002, The River To River Festival is a partnership between the Alliance for Downtown NY, arts>World Financial Center, Battery Park City Authority, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Port Authority of NY & NJ, and The Seaport.

The River To River Festival takes place each summer from June through August, in a variety of public venues that canvas all of Downtown New York - from Chambers Street down to the southern tip of Manhattan and across the island from river to river.

We aim to produce a world-class performing arts festival with a broad sweep of programming and free admission in order to enhance the vitality of cultural life in Lower Manhattan, to support its economic and social health, and to generate new audiences for the arts of our city. By removing barriers to the experience of live arts by free admission and by presentation at popular, mostly outdoor, public venues, we aspire to attract diverse audiences.

The partners founded the Festival following September 11, 2001 with the intention of using the arts as a tool for the revitalization of Lower Manhattan. Our effort, now in its 8th season, has not only assisted in renewal, but has transformed Downtown into a major cultural destination during the summer."

Central Park Summerstage

"Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, City Parks Foundation is pleased to announce the 2009 season schedule of its flagship free performing arts festival, Central Park SummerStage. Internationally acclaimed for presenting world-renowned and emerging talent from around the globe and New York City’s own backyard, the Central Park SummerStage season promises to be as electrifying as ever with a calendar chock-full of culturally diverse programs in multiple disciplines including music, dance, word, film, and comedy."

Celebrate Brooklyn

"The Prospect Park Bandshell is not only the Park’s main attraction for live outdoor entertainment, but one of New York City’s most exciting venues. The Bandshell is best known for hosting the Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival, a series of performances held each summer from June through August, showcasing an extraordinary diversity of legendary, current, and up-and-coming artists. The festival attracts nearly a quarter million concert-goers per season.

A program of BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! will kick off its 31st summer of music, dance, theater and film at the Prospect Park Bandshell in mid-June, 2009. "

City Parks Foundation: Dance, Theater, Concerts

Overall, City Parks Foundation offered 38 free concerts, 45 free dance performances, and 24 nights of free theater this summer, plus four weeks of free theater workshops for teens and five weekends of free dance master classes for communities across the city."
