To the Left, To the Left

Heard about the Left Forum recently. Looks interesting to say the least. It's the largest annual gathering for activists and intellectuals with hundreds of speakers from around the world speaking on panels and facilitating critical dialogues about the economic climate, race, culture, gender, religion, community organizing, healthcare, education etc . This year's theme is "Turning Points" and will be hosted at Pace University April 17-19. It's $45 for the weekend or $25 per day. For more info, check out: http://www.leftforum.org/

Dancing WIth New Yorkers

Maybe it was catching bits (alright, I'll own up to watching the premieres and finales) of Dancing with the Stars, but lately I've had an unexplainable itch to take salsa classes. Found a great resource for city salsa hotspots as well as class offerings at great prices.

Then Some with Dim Sum

Vegetarian Dim Sum
I love my meat, but I enjoy this self- explanatory restaurant located at 24 Pell Street in Chinatown. For those unfamiliar with the concept of dim sum, it is usually served as breakfast and includes small plates featuring small plates of salty, fried, steamed, sweet goodies (depending on what tickles your taste buds when you see the food carts roll by) and all washed down with tea. Plates are fairly reasonable.

Put Your Best Face Forward

Eyes.Lips.Face is a cheap/ridiculously affordable makeup line that is backed by Nordstroms. First heard about them a few years ago in college and was recently reminded of them again by z100 and Time Out. Many of their products are $1 each...pretty good quality that will last you beyond what you expect from the price tag. Start a makeup collection or restock, ELF has you covered.

What's Baking in Chelsea

Grabbed a cup of coffee (actually a bowl.... no joke- a bowl) and had creme brulee recently at La Bergamote located at 169 9th avenue at a friend's recommendation. La bergamote is a quaint European patisserie in the City where the taste lives up to the decadence of each individual edible artwork. If you're feeling guilty about having dessert, there are a few lunch options so indeed, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Here's a nymag.com profile of the bakery: http://nymag.com/listings/stores/la-bergamote/
